Fundația pentru Sănătatea Pielii

Perception study: Romanians’ perception and level of knowledge about skin cancer.

Challenge.

In 2016, one of the first national studies ordered by “Fundația pentru Sănătatea Pielii” revealed a lack of knowledge about skin cancer, prevention, and early detection among Romanians. For six years the association started a broad campaign aiming to educate the population regarding the danger of sun exposure and the signs of early skin cancer.

Regardless of their efforts, fewer Romanians went to regular dermatology checkups in 2022. As such, 1 in 3 diagnosed cancers is skin cancer and the melanoma rate is to increase by 50% by 2040.

Approach.

In the absence of a national prevention plan or any national statistics, Fundația pentru Sănătatea Pielii and MPR Agency took action by contracting Reveal Research Marketing for a wide national perception study to find out why most Romanians lack the drive to take skin cancer preventative measures although they are better informed regarding this disease.

After the study’s results were in, we used the data gathered to start an awareness campaign informing people about how dangerous skin cancer can be if not diagnosed early and encouraging them to take preventive measures.
